Dropbox Passwords to shut down in 2025 | Free Download

Users of Cloud File Storage Service Dropbox have access to several related tools. One of them, the dropbox password, is being closed later this year.

Dropbox introduced back the password as a private bet for customers in June 2020. This provided password manager for all dropbox users including free users in mid -20121. The password manager used zero-knowledge encryption and supported password generation, breech monitoring, autofil, secure sharing, and more. Dropbox limited the password manager to 50 login and payment cards and three devices for free users, but lifted the ban in 2023.

Dropbox Password: End of Service

The dropbox currently informs users of the password manager about the upcoming shutdown of service in an email. The company notes that the dropbox password will close on October 28, 2025. All browser extensions, web interfaces and mobile apps will stop working at this point. Dropbox will remove all data “permanent and safe” after this date.

Why is the dropbox closing the password? Dropbox states that the decision was made to “focus on increasing other characteristics of its main product”.

Here is the whole time line:

  • August 28: Passwords are read only in mobile apps and browser extensions. Users cannot add new information or do not amend the existing password manager entries. Autofil functionality is disabled.
  • September 11: Mobile dropbox password app will stop working. The browser extension continues to work at this point.
  • October 28: Dropbox password is closed. Users cannot access their user names, passwords or payment information. The data will be removed soon after.

Dropbox password users have to migrate their passwords in other services until then. It seems that Dropbox has partnered with 1password, as it is offering 50% discount to users for one year membership of 1password.

How to export your dropbox password

Here is a step-by-step guide on exporting your saved passwords.

  1. Open the Dropbox Password Browser Extension.
  2. Click on the profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Activate preferences.
  4. Choose account tab.
  5. Click on export.
  6. Confirm exports.

Some password managers may also support direct imports of dropbox password data. If this is not the case, you can manually import password data saved to most password managers.

Closing word

Dropbox users using integrated password manager have a lot of good options to choose. Keepass and Bitwarden are two good free options (with a fair price payment-level offer) with Bitwardon).
