Microsoft begins testing scrollable Start menu for Windows 11 | Free Download

Remember the re -designed start menu in April? Microsoft is currently testing it in the Dev Channel of the Insider program.

If you miss it, the start menu for the larger screen is being expanded, that is, it is favorable for the size of your screen. Start will shape to fit more apps and files automatically, it will display 8 columns of pinned apps, 6 recommendations and 4 columns of categories on large devices. On the small screen, you will see 6 columns of pinned apps, 4 recommendations and 3 columns of categories.

Users can disable recommendations from settings> privatization> and togle the following options.

  • Show the recently added apps
  • Show the recommended files initially …
  • Show websites from your browsing history
  • Recommendations for suggestions …

Microsoft is initially testing two new ideas to browse your apps: category and grid views.

Windows 11 Start category and grid view

Category visual default will be option, it will automatically combine your app by typing for quick access. For example, if your most used apps include Outlook, Solitaire, they will be placed in your respective categories at the top. A starting category is basically a group that is formed at least 3 apps from the same category. If an app does not belong to an existing group, it will be placed in the “other” category.

The grid view is an alphabet view that displays apps as a scrolling list. Clicking on the all button will take you to the complete list of apps, and it works in both ideas. Microsoft says that Start will remember your favorite view. The start menu has a new mobile device button next to the search, which brings the phone link panel.

Which widgets appear on the lock screen, the ability to choose, which was initially available to users in Europe (EEA), is now available for all areas.

These changes are available in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5641In Dev Channel.
