Microsoft is applying a significant change in the certification system of its account starting from February 2025. Under the new system, users are signed in sessions until they clearly sign out.
To better understand the change, It is necessary to see how the current sign is currently handled by Microsoft. When you sign in a Microsoft account in a web browser, you display the “signed” prompt after providing the user name, password and alternate two-factor certification verification.
tip: See our review of best authentic apps for Android and iOS.
When you fall, you remain signed only for the session. When you accept it, you are also signed in sessions. This signal starts in February.

here are the details:
- The change affects all microsoft services, including Outlook, Onedrive, Microsoft 365, and other services and products that support the login.
- A new global sign out option is available.
Security implication
While changes may look modest at first glance, its shared or public computer system can have serious consequences.
Here, it is necessary to clearly sign out, as the next user may otherwise access the Microsoft account and linked services.
A method around it is shared or using a private browsing mode of the browser on a public computer system. Sign in and any other activity is kept only for the browsing session. Once you turn off the browser, not all data, including the Microsoft account data, are no longer available.
Microsoft even suggests using private browsing on the devices that you are not on the sign in the page.
The best option is to avoid signing computers or devices in any service, which you do not have complete control.
Global sign out option

Microsoft customers who forget to sign out on those systems, others may have trigger a global sign out to force a sign out on all systems.
Here is how it works:
- Open it Microsoft support page,
- Choose the “sign in” button on the page. A new page opens that tells you to sign in, if you are not already.
- Scroll down on the additional safety option webpage until you sign out the section everywhere.
- Activate the link everywhere. Link.
- Confirm the signal by selecting “sign out”.
Microsoft notes that it may take up to 24 hours. In other words, there is a 24 -hour window in which others can still use services related to Microsoft account on other devices.
Closing word
The change mostly affects microsoft customers who sign in their accounts on public or shared equipment. Others may also be affected, but to some extent.
