Another out-of-band fix rolled out
Microsoft has released a second emergency out-of-band update for windows 11 To address serious bugs introduced by the January 2026 Patch Tuesday update. The new update, KB5078127, is now rolling out globally.
The latest fix targets an issue that has rendered many popular apps unusable after installing recent security updates.
Outlook and cloud apps were crashing
According to Microsoft, the bug caused applications relying on cloud storage to become unresponsive or fail completely. Affected apps included Outlook, a campaignAnd dropbox.
In some cases, Outlook will freeze upon launch, refuse to reopen, or re-download old emails. Until now, Microsoft’s only solution was to uninstall the January security update – few users want to do this.
KB5078127 replaces that workaround and bundled fixes from both the January 13 Patch Tuesday release and the first emergency update released on January 17.
a messy patch tuesday cycle
This is the second emergency update released by Microsoft in the same week. The first out-of-band patch fixed issues that prevented some systems from shutting down or using Remote Desktop — but it also introduced an app-breaking bug that is now being addressed.
The repeated emergency fixes highlight ongoing quality problems with Windows Update, especially for Windows 11 users running recent versions.
What should users do
If you were affected by frozen cloud apps or Outlook issues after the January update, installing KB5078127 should resolve the issue without rolling back the security patch. Microsoft says the same fix is being applied to other supported Windows versions as well.
For now, all eyes are on February’s Patch Tuesday, as Microsoft looks to restore confidence after a particularly difficult update cycle.
