Microsoft has announced that it has started age verification for Xbox users for Xbox users, this process is to follow the online security act.
Even in the European Union, age verification is a problem in many countries. Governments want to protect children’s safety, keep them away from harmful, inappropriate materials on the Internet. While this is a good idea, there are some privacy issues in the process of verifying someone’s age. Many people also feel that it is a form of sensorship.
Ruckus Reports said that some people have managed to bypass age verification on Reddit, Dissord using the photo mode of death stranding. He just pointed to the camera of his phone on the hero of the game, it is very simple. Other people have used VPN to trick services, thinking that they are from a separate country. But such tricks do not work with every verification service, obviously it is not with Xbox.
How does Xbox users affect age verification in the UK?
Don’t worry, your game library is not affected by these requirements. Xbox users who do not verify their age in early 2026 will not reach some social characteristics. You will still be able to use voice and text communication with friends, party functionality and game inviting, and user generated materials (including activity feed). You will not be able to use custom clubs, or look for groups, use discords, or broadcast to twithen the gameplay.
How to verify your age for your Xbox account?
Microsoft uses Yoti as its “reliable age verification partner”. Users who are at least 18 years of age can visit Microsoft’s website, https://aka.ms/xboxukageverificationYou will be asked to sign in to your account, after which you can verify your age by taking a selfie, ID issued by the government such as your driver’s license or passport, mobile number or credit card check.
Microsoft says that a live photo (selfie) or ID document that you submit it will be encrypted and removed after use. The mobile number is tested through your carrier, while your credit card is used only to verify your age (no fee). Both types of data are not stored or shared beyond the initial check. Refer to Government documentation For more information.
Microsoft says it is planning to roll the age verification processes in more areas in the future, but it is not clear which countries will get requirements. This is definitely a cause of anxiety.
