Support for all types of devices has always been a strong feature of the Windows operating system. The driver support is cooked in the operating system and most devices will work out of the box after installation. Yes, it makes sense to install some drivers manually, as you may get better features, better performance, or other benefits.
Microsoft Announced Drivers plan to clean up that Windows update pushes user devices when the operating system checks for updates. The company says that it is done to improve stability and safety, and to an extent is a valid point.
It plans to remove older drivers. In the first phase only drivers are separated by new drivers. Often, new drivers present the fix for issues or patch security bugs, and it is possible that Microsoft is referring to its declaration.
Technically, cleanup means that these drivers are no longer connected to any viewer in Windows updates. Since they are no longer connected, they will not be offered on any device when Windows runs a check for updates.
These drivers will then be removed from the Windows update by Microsoft. Hardware manufacturers can re -publish expired drivers, but Microsoft says that companies may need to justify the reproduction.
Regular spring cleaning
According to Microsoft, the driver cleanup will run regularly. It plans to expand cleaning for other types of drivers, but not specifically mentioned any mention.
Microsoft recommended that hardware manufacturers eliminate drivers from Windows updates
Impact on users
This will not affect the majority of users cleaning the rear scenes. Some users may be affected, however, in some scenarios. The new driver, for example, may lack support for old hardware devices. Additionally, bugs or issues introduced in new driver versions can cause issues on certain systems.
Windows users can still manually install drivers manually at any time, provided they have access to the driver. Most manufacturers provide driver downloads on their sites, at least for still supported equipment. CDs with drivers on them are no longer normal as they were a decade ago.
Driver download sites on the Internet are another option, but you may want to make sure they are valid before downloading anything from them.
Just in case, here is a tutorial on exporting Windows drivers using DISM.
Closing word
Only time will tell whether the driver cleaning initiative of Microsoft will actually be mostly beneficial for Windows users, or if it will present its own issues.
