Maybe you are using a laptop that is connected to the external monitor. You want to use the monitor as your primary performance on Linux, but it will not just give you. Let’s fix it.
This solution will be applied to devices with NVIDIA graphics cards.
1. Open the Nvidia X server settings.
2. Click on Prime Profile
3. Set NVIDIA (Performance Mode).
Return your computer to apply changes. I do not know why it needs to restart the system, but it does.
When I installed Linux Mint, both displays worked out of the box completely, and I was able to use display settings to set my monitor as a primary display, and closed the screen of the laptop (because its broken). I then installed the drivers of NVidia using Mint’s built-in driver manager. However, when I resumed the laptop, it would not miss my display settings. It will also not allow the monitor to function as a primary performance, when I tried, the internal performance turned black, and the monitor’s display. No error, nothing. I just had a black screen with a cursor. I tried to play with the settings, and Arandr, it did not help. Then I realized that Nvidia’s configuration was becoming silly.
The Nvidia X server settings, which are the name of the app you have to manage to manage the GPU options, have been configured by default to operate with “Nvidia – on Demand”. By its name, you will assume that Nvidia GPU is used when used, right? Yes, how does it work. It is active when you play games or do something that requires GPU. But, when you have a monitor connected through HDMI, literally at the port of the GPU, you will expect it to identify and work. Instead, it still behaves as on demand mode is active, so the internal GPU, in this case, is, an intel, awake and handles the load. Nvidia is inactive. I faced some obstacles while installing Linux Mint. First the glowing issue that was caused by a safe boot, then needs to disable RST, then monitor issue. A little patience can do miracles, and I learned some things.
Perhaps there are other solutions to this monitor issue.
