The first update of 2025 for the open source encryption software varrypt is now available. VERACRYPT 1.26.18 is a safety update that is also introducing several fix and other changes, including support for 32-bit versions of Windows.

- Verkrypt 1.26.18 fixes two security issues affecting Linux and MAC versions of software.
- On Windows, 32-bit support has been dropped.
- The minimum Windows version is now Windows 10 version 1809.
What is a very crypt? Verkrypt is an encryption software that you can use to encrypse the entire system, drive, partition, or protected containers on a storage device.

Download and install Verakrypt updates
Verakrypt comes without a built-in updating support. This means that you need to download and install the new release manually. The first thing you want to do is to check the current version.
tip: You can check the current version by selecting the help of Verkript in the interface.
When you can go to the official download page, you can see that it does not link to the latest version yet. Check out Source of project instead. There you get the latest downloads. Note that installation requires a reboot.
Safety fix
Verkrypt 1.26.18 fixes two security issues that affect Linux and MAC versions of encryption software. they are:
- CVE-2024-54187: Full paths were added while executing system binergies to prevent path kidnapping
- CVE-2025-23021: Stop the growing versions on system directors and paths
Additional details have not been published at the time of writing.
Non-security change
All operating systems received support to increase the performance of AES Hardware on the ARM64 platform and PBKDF2-HMAC-Sha256 on the AES hardware and “SHA-256 X86 Intrinsic.
Windows users require a 64-bit version of the operating system and at least Windows 10 version 1809 to run the latest varrypt release. Users on older versions of Windows need to use it (or upgrade to Windows).
The release makes some notable changes next to him:
- Driver reduces deadlock issues under low-memory scenarios.
- Decided an issue affecting the construction of the traveler disc.
- The generators in modern people changed to improve security.
- Update libraries.
There are also non-protection changes for Linux and Mac OS. On Macos, screen capturing is now disabled by default. -Low-SCREENCATTION enables it again to those who require it. There is also a fix for both systems that ensure that a volume exists before the growing operation begins.
