Microsoft is testing a collected gaming library in its Xbox PC app for Windows 11. Users will be able to access games from other storefronts through the app.
A handful of video game is library manager, the most popular are Gog Galaxy, Veer Launcher, Planight, to do some names. Such apps act as a frontnd to reach many storefronts from the same app, that is, you can use them to sign in to your Epic, Gog and Amazon Prime Games account, and browse your respective libraries, download and install the game, etc. It is quite convenient to manage all its games from one place.
This is what Microsoft is doing with its Xbox PC app. Players will be able to launch the game from the same library from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.NET and other major PC stores. Microsoft says it will add support to more PC storefronts in the future. Although it does not mention steam or other third-party by name, one will expect that the app will support the largest PC game store.
The game installed from other PC storefronts will appear in the “My Library” section of the Xbox PC app. They will also be listed on the “most recent” list, so you can go back quickly in your game. It seems as if you may need to install other stores apps as well, hopefully it is not the case.
The president of the Xbox, Sara Bond recently announced that the Xbox console would not be tied to a store soon. This collected gaming library can be the first step towards that goal.
Xbox indersers can test the new library in the Xbox PC app for Windows 11 PC and handheld devices. Microsoft says This will bring feature for Rog Xbox Ally and Rog Xbox Ally X during the holiday season, with support for new Xbox full screen experience.
