How to download and install the July 2025 security updates

Most non-managed devices running Windows 10 or 11 are updated automatically when Microsoft releases security updates. These are not installed in real-time though, and you may sometimes speed up the process, for instance to protect systems from issues that are exploited in the wild or because non-security issues were fixed that affected your producvity.

Here is how you install the update immediately on a system:

  1. Open the Start menu, type Windows Update, and select the result.
  2. Activate the “check for updates” button. This runs a manual check for updates.
  3. Activate the “download & install all” button, if the update is not downloaded automatically.

Note: We recommend that you create a system backup before you install any update for Windows. Bugs and issues may be introduced that Microsoft is not aware of at the time. A separate backup that does not rely on integrated recovery tools may restore the system when these tools fail.
